As part of YFSI environmental support program, keep it green (KIG) focuses on issues of climate change while dealing with concerns of water, sanitation and hygiene. Strategies employed include advocacy, operation research, capacity building, social network marketing, community sensitization and mobilization. The organization also collaborate with other green partners by creating alternatives to carbon emission while also providing opportunity for economic empowerment as an incentive for communities to address climate change issue .
YFSI in collaboration with other NGOs within the state has constantly engaged the Ministry of Environment and Water Cooperation on issues of Water Quality and Availability, Waste disposal and management and rural water and waste issues with researches conducted to engage stakeholders on above issues.
YFSI has also built capacity of 23 volunteers on Issues of climate change, it effects and ways of mitigating its impact across various LGA within Ogun state. This volunteers since then have continued to support community mobilization toward reducing carbon emission and mitigating its impact.
YFSI is also collaborating with SMEFUNDS to establish a green center in Abeokuta which provides opportunity for individuals to learn more on climate change issues while also using a social network marketing system to provide alternatives materials to products within the household that emits carbon thereby offsetting carbon within our environment, so far over 3300 tonnes of carbon have been offset through this process.
