ATM VOLUNTEER OUTREACH PROJECT (AVOP)

The HIV/AIDS Epidemic is still a serious problem in Nigeria. Over 4million Nigerians, the World’s third-highest numbers of people are infected with HIV (the virus that causes AIDS) & several thousands, have already died of AIDS. In 2000, it was estimated that one in every 23 Nigerians is infected with HIV, while over 300,000 infections and 200,000 deaths occurred. This is bound to have a major social & economic impact on the Nigerians society.

Tuberculosis is one of the public health problems of young and old people and the society at large, it is a serious infections disease in which swellings appear on the lungs and other parts of the body. It is usually an air borne disease which makes it easily transmitted if adequate care is not taken. Also, Malaria has remained a very intractable disease burden in Nigeria with close to 97% of the population at risk of infection.

ATM represents an acronym for AIDS, TUBERCULOSIS & MALARIA. ATM volunteerism is an approach to be used to reduce the disease within the communities in Ogun State. Since ATM has been classified world’s recognized diseases where several thousands have already died of these diseases; AVOP had been established to reduce the infection rate in Nigeria improving the way people manage Malaria, Tuberculosis and AIDS.

AVOP aims to contribute to the reduction in the spread and mitigate the impact of AIDS, TB and Malaria in with Ogun State in focus. It achieves this through three main objectives which are to strengthen the capacity of YFSI and its partner on ATM knowledge, increase knowledge and service uptake on, provide care and support for people affected by ATM while ensuring effective delivery of ATM services in Ogun State. So far over 20,000 persons have been reached since the commencement of this project.

SCALING UP HIV PREVENTION INETRVENTION IN TETIARY INSTITUTION IN OGUN STATE (SUHPIT)

Young people have continued to remain a target group of focus for HIV prevention based on their high rate of exposure and indulgence in high risk behavior As part of YFSI HIV prevention program using the peer education model, SUHPIT project aims at reducing the risk of HIV infections among In-School youths in tertiary institution in Ogun State by scaling up prevention interventions and increase access to and utilization of HIV counseling, testing, care and support services. The project usually runs for 6months an so far, the project has been implemented in three school Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Federal College of Education, Federal Polytechnic Ilaro.

SUPPORT FOR ORPHANS AND VULNERABLE CHILDREN IN OGUN STATE (SOVCOS)

Orphans are children without one or both parents, while vulnerable children are those who are exposed to being affected or harmed. In most cases they are vulnerable because they are often neglected & left without care, by the society.

Support for orphans and vulnerable children are a project aimed at supporting orphans and vulnerable children based on NEEDs. Usually the project identifies OVCs in the community through surveys or referral after which a vulnerability index assessment is conducted with support provided to most vulnerable children based on NEED. There is also continuous advocacy to communities and institution who can assist around the various starter of need of vulnerable children.

Over the past few years, we have been providing support to VC across Ogun Central senatorial district covering Health support, Education support, psychosocial support, Nutritional support, legal and protection support, and Household economic strengthening usually based on NEEDs. So Far Over 6,000 vulnerable children have benefit from one support or the other.

PLANNING OF LIFE FOR ADOLESCENT AND YOUTH IN OGUN STATE (PLAYPOG)

As young people grow, passing through the stage of adolescent, they continue to face challenges associated with Sexual and reproductive health hence the organization intervention to support Adolescent and youth to manage SRH in Ogun State.

The project increases knowledge on SRH while ensuring an efficient and effective access to modern contraceptive where necessary. So far over 10,000 Young people have benefited from this project across various intervention need.

YOUTH HAVE A SAY

Nigeria over the years has continued to recycle leaders with a constant relegation of young people hence the development of the project which aims to contribute to youth involvement and participation in governance. The project focuses on identifying issues as it affect young people, build consensus and engage policy makes and political leaders for lasting solution.

Example of such success was the case in Odeda LGA where it succeeded in securing LGA commitment in establishing a Youth Development center which was also equipped and made functional by a partner.

In addition the project engages Young people in Discussions and dialogues on issues affecting them and governance while also equipping them to engage in the electoral process from voter education, political debates , election monitoring and political office holders engagement. Such was the Leading of Not Too Young to Run Campaign in Ogun state along with various Election monitory activities at LGA and State Level.

KEEP IT GREEN

With continuous activities and interference of the human activities, the environment continues to be threatened particularly this also begins to put the future of every nation in jeopardy hence affect Young people.

Keep it green was develop to contribute to ensuring a sustainable environment, it started by addressing knowledge gap associated with culture and practices that affect the environment, thereafter linking it to issues of climate change and how the future is been affected. In addition, it promotes and support effective water, sanitation and hygiene policy and implementation within the state.

Finally the Organization also supported in providing alternative materials to ensure a more sustainable environment, such material are Solar product, Energy bulb and biogel stoves which were Pro poor.

LEADERSHIP, ENTERPRENURSHIP, AGRICULTURAL DEVELOPMENT (LEAD) PROJECT

As young people grow, apart from biological challenges they face, they gradually are faced with survival as an issue of concern however the society has not been able to address all the mentioned concern hence involvement of young people in various social vices. The Organization in her bid to address this developed the LEAD project.

LEAD project is designed to contribute to reduction in unemployment among young people in Nigeria. It involves capacity and skill development, mentoring and linkage with particular focus within the Agricultural sector developing leadership and entrepreneurial capacity of engaged Young people.
